A Bedroom for Kids in Crisis

We need help to finish building a Care Cottage, one room at a time, that will provide the ONLY crisis accommodation for kids in the ACT.

One of many stories…

Ulli & Patrick’s lives completely changed when Lucy was born. They knew that there was something a bit different about her and Lucy was soon diagnosed with autism. Lucy’s high needs means that she needs specialist care, so a normal babysitter is not an option for the family.

“That’s why Marymead is so important… so that parent’s get a break to just make it through the week or even the next three days… the Care Cottages will help enable families to stay together” – Ulli, Lucy’s Mum.

When Patrick needed lifesaving surgery in Sydney, Marymead was able to provide the right care and accommodation for Lucy at a time of crisis.

Marymead is the ONLY organisation in the ACT that is currently providing crisis accommodation for kids.

And sadly, Ulli and her family are just one example of the families who desperately need a safe place to stay.

And this is what we are doing about it…

We need your help to finish building one of our Care Cottages, room by room. We have enough money for half the Care Cottage so this $25,000 will build the fourth bedroom, providing a safe place for a child to sleep.

Once complete the Care Cottage will provide essential crisis accommodation for up to six children at once. The needs of the children will vary but will include emergency and crisis accommodation for vulnerable children and families, respite accommodation for young people with disabilities and a place to call home, even for a short period, for those children with nowhere else to go.
