Braving the cold to walk to school

The Good Shepherd Primary School was one of several school communities to brave the cold on Friday May 17 for National Walk Safely to School Day.

Special guests included Catholic Education Director Ross Fox, Meegan Fitzharris MP, representatives from the ACT Department of Health and Principal of Amaroo School, Gai Beecher.

University of Canberra Capital players and the ACT Brumbies were among the enthusiastic walkers!

The points of departure and departure times for the various routes were:

  • Oval on corner of Yumba and Unaipon Ave Ngunnawal- 7:50am
  • Wanderer Court Playground-7:55am
  • Moncrieff Hill Playground: 8am
  • Park on corner of Stanner Circuit and Louisa Briggs Crt Amaroo- 8am
  • Bizant St Playground amaroo-8am

Once at school, all assembled on Good Shepherd Oval at 8:30am where there was free fruit for breakfast.

St Bede’s join the walk

Students and staff from St Bede’s participated in Walk Safely to School Day day on May 17 as well.

The walk was promoted as an event when students were encouraged to walk safely to promote road safety, health, transport and environment.

It was the perfect morning for a walk and a chit chat.
