Again this year, St Joseph’s Parish invites the family and friends of those who have died by suicide to a special Memorial Mass.  People of all religious and non-religious affiliations are warmly welcome.  A light supper will follow which will be an opportunity to meet others who live with the impact of suicide.  Specialist counsellors will be present to provide support.

God has a special love for those who suffer, including those living with great sorrow, adversity or mental illness.  In this Mass, we offer our loved ones to an infinitely merciful God through his son Jesus who also endured extreme anguish and sorrow during his Agony in the Garden.  Though we continue to grieve, we do so in hope, knowing that life has not ended but is transformed and perfected by the fire of God’s love.

Last year’s Mass was offered for 51 souls, each remembered by name in the Eucharistic prayer.  Families and friends placed photographs before the Altar along with candles lit from the Paschal candle.  Many who attended found the service to be a profoundly moving and healing experience.
