Live as though you have none

The readings today seem to urge us to give up everything that is good. Paul speaks of living in stressful times, this we can understand. All the things that naturally absorb a person’s focus, like their partner in life, grief, and joy, Paul tells us to pretend they do not exist. Impossible! Not even wise? Unless there is something infinitely greater than everything else on this earth. Paul is attempting to shock us into an awareness of the importance of Jesus.

The Gospel too, alerts us that nothing on the planet will bring us true lasting happiness except through Jesus. He desires us to have fullness of life, but through him. Is there anything we put above Him?

Lord help us to see who you are, and to seek you above all else.
