Take the Op to Shop for “Dressed by Vinnies” Day

St Vinnies

On Friday 26 October, for the first time, the St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn will celebrate ‘Dressed by Vinnies’ Day, an event being promoted nationally by the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Barnie van Wyk, CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn, said, ‘Dressed by Vinnies Day is a really easy way for organisations to create ongoing support for the good works of the Society with very little effort.’

‘The profits made by Vinnies shops are returned to the community through a variety of Vinnies services to help break the cycle of poverty. Last year the St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn assisted over 40,000 people,’ he said.

‘Our shops bring in much needed funds to Vinnies but a huge percentage of Canberra’s population have never visited our shops,’ said Lindsay Rae, Director of Centres, St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn.

‘Vinnies centres in our region are fantastic, modern shops with a great range of quality clothing and household goods.’

‘Dressed by Vinnies Day simply encourages people to visit a Vinnies store and purchase an item – or whole outfit – to wear on the 26th. Organisations can keep it simple, or create a theme. Our office’s theme is ‘wear no black.’

‘Competitions are encouraged, and we have some Vinnies vouchers that can be offered as prizes,’ said Mr Rae.

‘By holding an event that encourages people to visit Vinnies, you are making an ongoing investment in our local community,’ said Mr van Wyk.

‘Once people have shopped at Vinnies we are confident they will be back. With more people shopping at Vinnies there will be more money available to assist the marginalised and build a much better community for us all,’ he said.
