Can we have synodal meetings when major taboos are in place? Woman’s ordination, a voice for LGBTQI+, Governance exclusively by the ordained; all these seemed to be excluded by the Plenary Council agenda. It seems to me the image of the Road to Emmaus has Jesus asking, “What are you talking about?” There are no restrictions in that question. The council report should be able to say, “these are topics burning in our hearts as we walk along in the Australian Church”.

I am not saying they are the only topics or that we can solve them but their exclusion speaks volumes. And really what is the health of a relationship where topics are being avoided?
