THE CANBERRA Friends of Ireland Society recently held its annual ecumenical service in honour of Saint Patrick at the Australian Centre for Christian and Culture in Barton.

St Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century.

His familiarity with the language, the culture, and the legends, allowed him to incorporate his Christian teachings into the rich Irish traditions and myths of the times.

Well-known media personality, Genevieve Jacobs, was the guest speaker at the well-attended gathering. She delivered a presentation on ‘How our Irish heritage has influenced the Australian character.

The Canberra Celtic choir accompanied vocalist who sang several songs in Gaelic, and Madeleine Johnson entertained the congregation on the traditional harp.
