Hosea, the prophet, married a woman who was unfaithful to him. In fact, her manner of life was ‘loose-living.’
But Hosea was ‘in love with her,’ and so continued to ‘love her.’
Can we understand how this ‘marital love’ becomes an image of the ‘love of God’ for us?
If so, the reading makes perfect sense:
I am going to lure her and lead her out into the wilderness and speak to her heart.
There she will respond to me as she did when she was young (Hosea 2).
Here is a moment to be ‘young again.’
