What Do Women Want From the Church?

12 November 2022 @ 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Catholic Women Respond Promptly to the Plenary Council

Catholic women of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn are invited to a conversation about what the decrees of the Plenary Council mean for catholic women on Saturday, 12 November 2022 at Merici College, Braddon ACT from 10 am to 3.30 pm.

Ms Phil Billington, a member of St Bernard’s Parish Bateman’s Bay and one of Australia’s most experienced Catholic leaders, will guide the day.

The gathering has been organised by the Catholic Women’s Taskforce which was established 2019. Andrea Dean, chair of the taskforce, said “The pandemic has had a profound impact on our experiences of faith, liturgy, and community. It’s timely to review the work of the Taskforce and shape our future in the church. The Plenary Council has given us a unique opportunity to lead the way in implementing the 4th decree on Witnessing the Equal dignity of Women and Men.”

To ensure that women from rural areas can attend, the Taskforce, a self-funded Archdiocesan group, will provide petrol subsidies and organise billets.

Madeleine Banister, former National International Secretary for the Catholic Women’s League and a member of the Catholic Women’s Taskforce, explained: “The day is open to all Catholic women. You may not be involved in Church at all now. All are welcome, especially those who feel on the fringe.”
