St Matthew’s School Page is celebrating its 50th anniversary during 2022.
To mark the occasion an Anniversary Mass will be held at 10.00am on Sunday March 27th at St Matthew’s Church.
The mass will be held in compliance with COVID regulations. If you would like to attend please call our Front Office on 62542653
Lyn and I remember that time at St Matthews very well. Our three older children, Mark, Belinda and Stephen completed their Primary education at St Matthews from 1972. Sister Leo and Sister Hildegard. Barbara Gaynor as Secretary! So many other names and people come to mind because, without a purpose built presbytery and Church, we used the School Hall for Mass on Sundays. Memories of setting up the chairs and then dismantling.
The School P & F was in fact the de facto social organisation of the Parish. I can remember the annual fetes and especially a wine bottling event to raise funds. Having to source and clean the bottles and then filling them up and labelling, certainly put me off wine drinking for some time!!
A new schools and a new parishes was certainly a life changing time for me. It was a time that gave much meaning and strength to my faith.
