Giving Tree for mums and bubs at Catholic Bookshop

Christmas Tree

Joseph and Zara admire the Christmas tree and crib in the Atrium of St Christopher’s Pastoral Centre, in front of the Catholic Bookshop.

Christmas can be a tough time for many people in our community and that includes mums and bubs.

To help out the mothers and babies at Karinya House, a Giving Tree has been set up  in the Catholic Bookshop at Forrest.

Karinya House for Mothers and Babies is a community-based, grass roots, local organisation. It supports vulnerable and at risk pregnant and early parenting women in Canberra and the surrounding Region.

The service operates on a twenty-four hour, seven days a week basis, and is located in the ACT. It provides professional and specialised support to women throughout Canberra and the surrounding regional areas.

Since the establishment of Karinya House in 1997 the service has supported over 2,200 pregnant and parenting women, as well as their babies and families.

People are requested to leave only new presents at the Giving Tree.

These will provide a bit of light and relieve a bit of pressure for new and expectant mothers and their babies.

The Catholic Bookshop is located within St Christopher’s Pastoral Centre in Franklin Street, Forrest. It  is open from 9.30am to 5pm weekdays, 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and now also on Sundays, from 10am to 1pm.

In addition to books, the Bookshop also stocks a wide range of music, DVDs, gifts, candles, icons and sacramental goods that you can buy in person or online.
