Unacceptable security and necessary risk

Risk seems to be required in the Kingdom of heaven. In today’s Gospel Jesus seems to be implying that a safe, self-protective response to life is exactly wrong. In the story this seems a harsh response, but perhaps in the business of loving others there are no excuses for not taking risks. We need to be taking risks, and growing in love, or else we are getting nowhere at all and wasting the precious life we have been given.

Lord make us bold in loving. Make us see the importance of taking the risks that are necessary in a generous loving life.
